The roof is all on and the covered porch is just about done.

Truss Nobody
Thanks for the pics, Weston! I'm laying in bed with a cold, too drugged-up to drive to the lot, and Weston pulled thru for me. What a guy.

Time to Pay the Piper
It doesn't look like anything happened today, but I climbed down into the hole to snap a couple pics of the plumbing.

Wells Yeah
Today we got waterproofing, window wells, and if you look real close you can see that we got basement plumbing too.

Naked
This is how the walls look without blankets. Its been pretty warm today - about 50 degrees - which is great for January and for the curing process. There probably won't be much happening until the later part of this week while the cement cures and gains strength to support the weight of the house.

Finding Our Footing
Castle Creek is rockin and rollin on this thang. You're looking at the future site of my super manly mancave.

Holed Up in Lehi
We met with our builder's agent today and he told us we'd probably dig tomorrow, so you can imagine how surprised we were when we drove to our lot after our meeting and found that the excavation was under way!

Can You Dig It
The builder is hoping to get the city's approval on Tuesday to break ground on Wednesday, which is also my first day at my new job. It's going to be an exciting Wednesday!

The Great Wall
Until all of the necessary permits are acquired, construction will not begin. But every once in a while, I have driven to the lot just to check, in hopes that the builder has jumped the gun and dug our basement hole early. A few days before I took this picture of the retaining wall, I ventured out to the lot after dinner. It wasn't very late, but it was pitch black outside. I pointed my headlights at the back of the lot, and to my surprise, we had a retaining wall! I needed to touch it. I needed to stand next to it and see if it was taller than me. So I did, and it was. I walked back toward my car, blinded by the high beams. Do you see that big gaping hole toward the back of the lot on the left? No? Neither did I. Well, I fell in it. I got a pretty impressive goose egg on my knee. Check it out.
Our Lehi Abode
I start a new job in Orem soon. Carrie and I have been living with her
parents for the past year as I waited for a job offer from the firm to
materialize. It finally came and we began the house hunt. We looked at
homes from Herriman all the way to Mapleton, which is twenty minutes
south of Orem. We toured a spec home in Mapleton that we fell in love
with. Mapleton was too far from family, but the builder had an
available lot on Traverse Mountain in Lehi. We liked the lot, so we
made an offer on the home, and then the fun began! Picking out paint
colors, brick, carpet, cabinetry, and appliances was a blast. Our new
baby girl comes in late April, and the builder expects that we will be
able to move in by the end of March. It's an exciting time for us! Our
builder, Castle Creek Homes, has been awesome to work with. There will be a few differences between our home and the photos below, but they are minor. Clicking on "Location" at the bottom of this post should take you to a map of our lot.
Ours won't have that little "eyebrow" of roof over the garage. Also, the garage door should be white. |
We like the little office/formal living room by the front door. |
