Pillar Progress?

It looks like maybe they've figured out how to fix the pillars. I liked how the original ones were beefier, but it does look nice that they don't hang over the edge of the porch like the original ones did. The top photo is the new pillar, and the bottom two are the original pillars that hung over the edge of the porch.

The Doors

Trim should be done today. Still no pillars.

We've got Wood

Wow. Wood floors are in, fireplace hearth has been fixed, grout is in. It all looks great! The finish guys are here to hang the doors, do all the trim work, and build the shelves.

Mantle and Shower

The mantle looks just like I hoped, but it was built on top of the tiles that were supposed to be removed and replaced with bigger ones. So that's gotta be fixed. The master bathroom shower got done today. Looks good.

Textile

The ceiling texture in the bathrooms and laundry room upstairs got done today. The kids' bathtub was installed, the walls were tiled, and the master bathroom got some more tile as well.

Pillar Drama

I wonder if this is turning into a bigger project than anticipated. The load-bearing posts are only an inch from the edge, so unless they're moved, the brick will hang over the edge just like it did before. But I'm glad our builder cares enough to fix it.

Exterior is Undone

The builder called me today and said they're going to redo the pillars so the brick doesn't overhang the porch so much. Notice that the brick has been stripped off of them? I don't know how they're going to eliminate the overhang without moving the entire pillars on the north side inward a bit, because the pillars, even without the brick, come all the way to the edge of the porch (photo below). So I guess they're moving the whole pillar. It's kind of a shame because they were looking so nice, but it will look better when it's done, I'm sure. I'm glad that it's getting fixed. The main floor got some drywall texture today. Also, we locked a great interest rate this morning and we are way excited about that!

And the drywall is coming along nicely.

More Bricks

Bricks n Tape

The drywall finishers were taping today. The basement insulation is in, and the brick is looking great! We chose brick instead of the standard rock and were a little but nervous about our choice. But we love it. The Hardie was finished today on the north side and part of the front. The pillars are taking shape.
